MG UNIVERSITY APPLICATION CONSULTATION PROGRAM

From choosing the right courses, to editing the fifth, sixth, and seventh copies of your personal statement, to the agony of waiting to find out if you get accepted anywhere – it’s no wonder we’ve seen students develop grey hairs during this period. Then you get called in for an interview and just dissolve into a jittery pool of anxiety.

Each student will be designated a seasoned tutor/consultant from their university of choice, who will be in charge of running the program in 3 stages:

Stage 1: Personal Statement 

Your consultant will coach you through the formulation of your personal statement, identifying key strengths and weaknesses. This is an important step in crafting your individual story and presenting yourself in the best light for your application.

Your personal statement will undergo at least three revisions with your consultant.

Stage 2: Pre-interview Diagnostics

Your consultant will identify vital soft skills or personality traits that interviewers like to see for your respective field. For example, while social skills are not a crucial requirement for engineering students, having the ability to clearly and concisely articulate your thoughts would most certainly be looked upon highly.

Stage 3: Interview Drilling Sessions 

As MG has access to a wealth of information from expert advisors and past applicants, we know exactly what kind of students universities are looking for.

This stage will be dedicated to practicing interview skills based on a database of previous interview questions and brain teasers. The questions will be dissected and you will learn how to answer them succinctly and judiciously. Practice written questions will also be given.

You will be provided with continuous guidance and feedback at every stage of the program, which will hone your capacity to perform at your best for the real thing.

STAYING ORGANIZED –  F.A.R.T.S.

We’ve seen some truly terrifying file organization systems in the past; from misnamed folders and misplaced files to atrociously cluttered desktops. We cannot overstate the importance of staying organized in your academic success, so let us help you save time and avoid stress throughout the school year by using MG’s F.A.R.T.S. (Filing Assistance Regimental Timesaving System). To download a copy:

1. Click the button below to take you to the F.A.R.T.S. file on Google Drive.

2. Click ‘Download All’ in the top right corner.

3. Extract F.A.R.T.S. to an easily accessible place on your computer, e.g. the Documents folder or your Desktop.

MG SPOTLIGHT

At MG, we celebrate excellence. Although scoring 98% on a test is absolutely an excellent result, we don’t just draw the line at academic results. Tutor or tutee, excellence comes in many different forms for us, whether it be an outstanding work ethic, the ability to make others smile or just being authentic and unique.

Our spotlight for this month features the MG icon himself: Angus Yam!

On the day that MG was founded, young insurance salesman Angus Yam was sitting in his 2′ x 4′ cubicle brooding over the impossible sales targets that his plump, sweaty boss had set for him. He knew something had to change.

Then, it was as if a switch inside him had flipped – there was no turning back. Angus marched over to his boss’s corner office and booted the door open. It splintered into a thousand pieces as it collided with an adjacent trophy cabinet.

“ANGUS, WHAT DO YOU THINK Y—”

His berating was interrupted by a thunderous slap across the face which catapulted him across the room. Angus slammed his resignation letter onto the glass desk with a resounding crack, fracturing it beyond repair. At the bottom written clearly in red, size-72 font were the words:

“I QUIT.”

“Hope your insurance covers that,” Angus jabbed as he sauntered out of the room, “my kids – they need me.”

Today, Angus is nothing short of an exceptional tutor, with level 6 being the minimum result of his IB Biology and Chemistry students. He employs a ‘teaching through joy’ approach and you can usually tell that he’s at the MG office if you hear endless laughter echoing throughout the corridors. Students can rest assured knowing that he has put his violent tendencies behind him, although if anybody wants to test that theory – please get in touch.
