The MG Circular- September 2020

THE MG CIRCULAR – September 2020

The holistic answer to all your back to school worries.

For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.
Is this you when you try to plan out effective revision schedules for upcoming assessments?
Do you make this face when you try to organize and streamline your workflow for internal assessments?
Is this your reaction when you see vague and subjective assessment objectives and criteria?
Here’s the truth: some teachers are just not equipped to deal with the individual needs of 60 students across 4 different classes. Picture this: you are a few months into the school year and suddenly you have two IAs, four unit tests, and a written task to complete in one week. Worst of all, Mr. Collywobbles replies to your emails three weeks too late and when he does, his meaningless feedback makes you want to punch a brick wall.

It’s not unusual to feel lost and stressed during these inevitable periods of your academic life. MG has seen it all and we are here to help navigate your IB journey from beginning to end.

The MG Academic Mastery Program is an integrated solution that aims to organize, manage and support your academic progress by assigning you with an academic coach who will oversee your IB curriculum every step of the way.

We’ve seen some truly terrifying file organization systems in the past; from misnamed folders and misplaced files to atrociously cluttered desktops. We cannot overstate the importance of staying organized in your academic success, so let us help you save time and avoid stress throughout the school year by using MG’s F.A.R.T.S. (Filing Assistance Regimental Timesaving System). To download a copy:

1. Click the button below to take you to the F.A.R.T.S. file on Google Drive.

2. Click ‘Download All’ in the top right corner.

3. Extract F.A.R.T.S. to an easily accessible place on your computer, e.g. the Documents folder or your Desktop.

Happy F.A.R.T.S.!

At MG, we celebrate excellence. Although scoring 98% on a test is absolutely an excellent result, we don’t just draw the line at academic results. Tutor or tutee, excellence comes in many different forms for us, whether it be an outstanding work ethic, the ability to make others smile or just being authentic and unique.

Our spotlight for this month features our star student: Hillary Gui!

“My dream is to just eat and sleep but still be rich.” – Hillary Gui
Incompetent, lazy, and spoilt. All words we would use to describe students who leave their internal assessments until the last minute.

On the other hand, Hillary is known by all MG tutors as a pleasure to teach because of her personable charm. Although Hillary’s lessons are sometimes derailed by her own rants about the hottest new anime or the most recent addition to her island in Animal Crossing, don’t mistake this for absent-mindedness.

Hillary is frequently caught looking clueless on webcam during her Zoom maths lessons. Yet, when her teacher checks on her classwork to see if she understands, it turns out that her answers are all correct.

Some other tidbits about this quirky individual:

  • Believes burgers are not sandwiches
  • Believes hotdogs without sausages are still hotdogs
  • Biggest fear: cockroaches
  • Likes spiders and frogs
  • Wants to be a shrimp in her next life

We’ve seen Hillary blossom from a timid, quiet student into an eccentric, outspoken member of the MG family. We hope she develops her natural artistic talent over the next few years and realizes her dream of being an animator.
